A very rare Ardbeg Double Barrel set, containing two single cask Ardbegs distilled in 1974 bottled at cask strength and packaged in hand-blown bottles with sterling silver labels.

The leather case made by Purdey and Sons includes an oaken Omas fountain pen , a leather-bound notebook to record tasting notes, and eight sterling silver cups. A whisky treasure chest!

46% It’s a marriage of two casks – one Ardbeg, one Mortlach – both aged (at least) 10 years. A total of 360 bottles were released in 2018.

Nose: medicinal, smoke, vanilla

Taste: soft white fruit, apricot, vanilla, shortcake, lemon

Finish: white pepper, hint of medicinal smoke

Score: 4

Conclusion: It’s no longer Halloween but this is the Franken malt that nobody asked for. Just a bit meh, the Ardbeg dominates the Mortlach quite a bit. I am an Ardbeg 10 and Oogie fan and I wasn’t enamoured by the recent Mortlach releases but I would never in my wildest dreams put either of them near each other. 5 Average, just about passable, not bad but doesn’t soar

6 Pretty good- worth a glass or two but maybe not a special occasion malt.
