A cask-strength release of Ardbeg 1975 bottled in 2006 from a single sherry cask for sale at the distillery. There are now almost no sherry casks from the 1970s left at Ardbeg for this kind of bottling.
Thanks /u/kinohead for letting me try this Ardbeg IB single cask, there are not too many out there these days.
Nose: The sherry influence is not pronounce. Smoke, youngish, salt, iodine, vanilla, apple.
Palate: Peat and smoke, green apple, lots of mint, pepper, salt, citrus, iodine, vanilla. Palate much more flavorful than the nose, but still a little weak compared to some cask strength Ardbegs I ave tried. Ardbeg 1975 Sherry Cask #1375
Finish: This is where this bottle truly shone. Medium or longer in length. Peat, menthol, vanilla, apples, iodine, creamy transitioning to spicy.
Score: 86.5
A high bottling ABV or a more active cask may have helped improve this a little. The mint/menthol was very pronounced and interesting. Shares a lot in common with core Ardbeg profile, which makes it a good whisky to me.
