Firstly, A special-release of 1973 single malt from Fettercairn distillery. Matured for 46 years and has been finished in tawny port pipes. Aromas of overripe bananas, toasted sourdough, fresh oranges, plums, dark chocolate and figs fill the nose. The palate offers notes of spiced pears, coffee, caramelised orange and liquorice, with hints of black cherries and plum lingering in the finish.
Nose: Thick and heady roses in bloom, forward Sherry funk, dried black currants, stewed plums, blood orange, ginger nuts, dried figs and mejool dates with pomegranate syrup.
Palate: Rich sweet/savoury approach that’s oily and thick mouthfeel with ripe damsons, baked beets, warm molasses bread and blood orange marmalade. Indicisive ginger/chili warmth that immediately flip-flops to a menthol icy burn.

Notes: Not sure about this.
The nose is nice. The palate is fine, but short. The tail trips it up
The mouthfeel made me think I was in for a very different journey, because as soon as the spice appears, all the body seems to leave the whisky as the menthol rises.
Meanwhile, It doesn’t come back and then becomes very dry. So now it’s dry and thin and tastes of lightly bitter, spiced-mint coffee grounds. And I’m wondering what the fuck just happen to this juicey funk machine I thought I just drank.
It does pull back with a little sweet and sharpness as residuals, which are actually pretty enjoyable, but by then any continuity has been well and truely broken.
