Fuenteseca Extra Añejo 18 Year

To begin With, Fuenteseca Extra Añejo 18 Year. This lot was distille in September 1995, and consiste of 75% tequila distilled in copper column stills. And 25% tequila distilled in copper alembic stills. The entire run is laid into 180L Canadian white oak casks previous use to age Canadian rye whiskey. At a warehouse located at 4,600’ in the town of Atotonilco el Alto, Jalisco.  The casks remaine there for six years.

Meanwhile, In 2001, the tequilas were extracte from their casks, blende together and re-barrele. With 47% return to Canadian white oak casks and the remaining 53% going into 220L European dark oak barrels previously used to age California red wine. The refille casks were then move from Atotonilco el Alto to a hillside facility El Chapingo. With its cooler, breezier climate, and left to age for an additional twelve years.

Also, Aroma is heavy with sweet fruit and even floral notes. Maybe even a little citrus in the aroma. A nice layere complexity overall in the aroma with even a bit of earthiness. The flavor opens with spice – cinnamon and pepper. A little fruit and floral flavor follows but not nearly close to the incredible complexity in the aroma. Medium finish that stays spicy on the tongue. Fuenteseca Extra Añejo 18 Year.

Very unique and not something I have really every smelt in a tequila. After nosing it for a bit I pick up chocolate and cherry but there is an inorganic note that almost smells like tar. Flavor: I get a lot of oak upfront and then some cherry on the back end. Finish: The finish is unique and leaves your mouth extra dry. It’s something that I’ve experienced in a few tequilas and find it super interesting.

Extra añejo is the crown jewel of tequila expressions. And is worth just as much appreciation and reverence as a fine Cognac or soughtafter Scotch. And, similar to a fine Cognac or whisky, its crafte complexity is meant to be savore through sipping
